Hello all.
Sorry for a second post in an evening.
I am trying to track down any articles that have been published regarding flash boilers, especially those targeted at the model boat and hydroplane scenes.
I have one very good article from a book- "Scale model ships" - , I believe from the 60's, which outlines a simple flash boiler and a semi-rotary valve engine to go with it.
Does anyone have any others sources they can point me at? I am interested in both the boilers themselves and any specific engines designed for them. The small, light boilers and engines for hydroplane racing especially.
Many thanks
Steve

One of the few books on the subject is Experimental Flash Steam by Benson and Rayman. Probably out of print now, but you may be able to find a copy.

There is one in the "Dampf" series N°11 from Neckar-Verlag but it is in German. It is however more geared towards "normal" boats. But N°21 might be interesting for you. www.neckar-verlag.de/index.php?id=118

Have been idly considering a monotube boiler for a pipedream project that'll probably never see the light of day, and I came across this website www.flysteam.co.uk/index.htmThe author gives some interesting design info derived from his own experiments on small boilers.
