I have managed to scrounge up enough scrap to build a twin cylinder piston valve marine engine. Bore 1" Stroke .875 I found this in Yahoo clubs from a 1953 Popular Science Magazine The original cylinder block was machined from brass I have cut mine from a 40mm thick chunk of aluminium plate. The orignal piston's are made from dural with cast iron rings. Can any body see any problem's using mild steel piston's with Teflon O-rings in aluminium cylinder's honed with a brake cyl hone.I intend to machine the piston valve's from mild steel and the valve liner's from Phos bronze. Hi Lee, I'm very interested in this marine engine you found. What are your sources if it's not a secret ? Or is it possible to send me the drawwings via e-mail ? Anyway I thank you for your help. PIerre

Nah Lee, that should work OK, the teflon rings will probably be fine, although my own preference would be for soft packing - on the grounds that it will hold a bit of oil. You will need to be pretty particular in the matter of lubrication 'cos al has a bad habit of galling if you try to run it dry.
