Dear all, I started a 'Brit' a long time ago using Perrier's drawings - these are now illegible and a few are falling to bits. Anyone know where I can get some drawings? They don't even have to be Perrier's, as I have finished the chassis and boiler and I just want the superstructure details - cab, tender body, smokebox, ashpan etc and could adapt them to fit what I have. Best regards to all. John Richardson

If you don't have any luck I may be able to assist by copying my Perrier drawings and sending them over.

I think you'll find that the original Perrier drawings are now well out of print! As such supplying a copy for non commercial use to assist a fellow modeller is not illegal.

In fact, copying drawings isnt illegal although it may be a breach of copyright.
The copyright will exist for 7- years from the date of death of the author, or, in some cases, the copyright holder (who may not be the author).
As one example, Tubal Cain's works (that were not published in ME etc) are still copyright, with the rights held by his estate.
However, in case of infringement, it is up to the copyright holder to take such action as they deem appropriate. The "remedy" is usually an award to equal the value of the material concerned, plus, perhaps a nominal sum as damages.
re Perrier drawings, as they are no longer available, the risk is minimal, and I doubt that any action could be taken, unless someone actually published them for gain.

and there was I thinkng that as Blackgates now have the rights to the design they would also hold the copyright on the drawings..... I would suggest as check first as I was also under the impression that they still supplied Perrier drawings for the loco.

I wasnt aware that Blackgates were selling them, or had the rights to do so. (My post was based upon "as they are no longer available..")
If they do sell them, they may hold the copyright, but could just be selling them in the same way that they sell LBSC's designs.

...but could just be selling them in the same way that they sell LBSC's designs. And infringing copyright! DJ

Well folks my original intention was an offer of assistance in response to a modeler's request for help. Given the responses generated I'll be much more circumspect in future.
Cheers

from my conversations with Phil and Jackie I understood Blackgates to have purchased the designs that the late Norman Spink owned from his estate. As such that would make them copyright holders for Perriers Brit and King and Warnetts 9F.

However there is another point, you are permitted to make a copy for personal [sometimes called research purposes] use, ie just like going to your Local Council Library and using the photocopier they provide for just that purpose. So you just go to your friend's private library!!

I have a "private library" and happened to scan all my drawings on to disc years ago. Very useful to print out and work from.

I have all the assembly drawings for the Winson but no technical detail is on them. Bri
