First thanks for all the advice regarding millin and slot cutters. however I am reading June's edition of MEW and on page 23 there is in the lower right hand page a picture of the Myford gear train, my question is what is that little lever for to the left of the gears, my ML7 has this but i have no idea what is's for. Regards Alan ps i do have the Myford handbook but I can find no reference to it.

That lever is used to push a pin towards the tailstock into the largest pulley. You have to rotate the pulley by hand whilst applying pressure to the lever.
This locks the mandrel allowing you to unscrew the chuck using both hands.
Well that's what I use it for ;D
Make sure you pull it out before turning on the power!
