Hello all, I hope you all enjoyed the Christmas hols, and are happily beavering away at your projects throughout a great new year. Me...I had just finished milling both cylinders for my Tich to size and was boring out 1/4 then 1/2 prior to finish size when the machine...''spit''...died on me. Has anyone had problems with these mills during the first year of use. I bought it from Chester... May, of last year 2005...it is a CHESTER CONQUEST MANUAL MILL.... sounds as if some thing is sheared in the gear box, but it should be covered under guarrantee. All the best for now, John.

Hi John, You've probably got it fixed by now but it sounds like the main 'plastic' drive gear could have stripped, a common occurance apparently and easy to replace but a nuisance. Have a look at MINI-LATHE.COM, they have a page dedicated to the mini mill including a chap's modification to belt drive! Tim

Hello Tim, it's sorted, and I hope it behaves itself this time. Have a look at the recent ...Warco WM 250 Lathe ...posting and you will see what I had to do to get it going again. I will be loath to use it to fly cut anything, as I think that the machine is a combination of ...Poor Workmanship and bad Design tolerances...one glaring example...layshaft dimension...10mm...Plastic gear to fit same...hole dimension to fit shaft 30 thou'' oversize.[new replacement gear...twice!]...key to hold gear on shaft recessed so deeply as to protrude only 20 thou'' above shaft, the key had to be packed out enough to hold the gear. this is all without delving into the guts of the gear box. I do not want to go down that road, All the best for now, John.
