No progress yet! I have however taken it to my MES and Pushed it round (i said to check for clearances, really i just wanted to play! Callum98 You are not alone. I did the same with my Brit chassis and derived a great deal of pleasure from it! Great to see someone on a loco who hasn't got hair colour the same as mine! JB

Another V4 Bantam Cock - Bantam Hen. Here's a photo of me posing with it! And very nice it looks too. That's a great start to a nice project. Good luck with it. Thanks for the photo, keep us posted. Chris. Dye it JB, the rest of us do!

Dye it JB, the rest of us do! Today is our 17th anniversary of the day we met: within two weeks of meeting I was put on Grecian 2000. Within four weeks my hair was a nice lemon/orangey shade of yellow...... JB

I bought it off a chap on The garden railway forum, if you type in LNER V4 on Google images there should be a picture of it outside his station somewhere...

Bantam Cock Lubricator. Wow. Has it really been almost a year since I commented on this. It's a wonder I could find it. Anyway, at least I made an effort to make a lubricator. You can understand why people buy them, there's quite a bit of fiddly work. The main delay has been because I've been making a V3 chassis. I'll upload a photo sometime. I know how you like photos on here. Has anyone got a B1 driving wheel I can buy. Good price paid before I phone - where? any suggestions.

Hi sorry to resurrect this again but I noticed in another thread that mention was made of making the ring just a press fit into the tube, so enabling removal for ease of access. If this is an acceptable method, is it "pinned" there someway?.
Paul ..... This is how I did mine: - Blower - 3 hole or 1 hole. I've made the smokebox ring so that it can be removed with ease. It is secured by four socket cap screws that are easily accessible with an allen key. It'll make for easier access when plumbing in the pipework. Now - the blast pipe. Do I have one blower jet or three? Is there advantage to having three holes in the blower? My previous loco's only have one blower jet and have steamed very successfully. Is there anyone out there who has experience of a comparison of the efficiency of the two methods? Thanks Chris

Chris many thanks for that, never thought of doing it that way. Showing my complete ignorance but is the working atmosphere in there a bit unpleasant or have you used stainless ones. Regards Paul

Just one point, you will need to seal the ring to the smokebox. The grub screw may push the tube away from the ring causing air leaks. Put some high temp silicon or fire clay to seal the joint.

The smokebox ring is a tight fit. Don't do them up tight otherwise, as you say, it will distort the tube. Just enough to mark the inside of the tube. Chris

Point noted, did wonder about putting four short curved strips in the tube to locally strengthen it a bit just where the screw points contact. Paul

i would never fit a smokebox ring the way redmog has done his. i arrange the boiler tubes and superheater flues so the superheater assembly and anything else can be removed without disturbing the smokebox ring. all my locos have the smokebox secured by way of a screw in blastpipe. the base of the blastpipe/exhaust pipe assembly fits the base of the smokebox. it is but a few minutes work to lift the boiler and smokebox assembly at the front and withdraw the smokebox from the boiler if ever required. i would never want to disturb the front smokebox ring and all the associated damage to paintwork. cheers, julian

And, how do you get in to disconnect it?

I use Julian method , steam pipes vary from engine to engine and can be addressed . I respect other ideas , each to his own .
