Les,
I've got a cheap QH site lamp with a wire guard that's dropped apart. I've also got a 300 VA toroidal transformer that'll lend itself to having one or two turns of high current secondary to provide a high current/low voltage source.
It's all a bit hairy and will need a load of care. In my case I think I'll need a means of applying a clamping pressure (copper rods) and then zap the mains on for a second or two using a suitable switch.
It's in the range of do-able but will need a bit of thought and a lot of care not to be lethal.

Something like this Les? www.apactool.com/sparkie.htmSounds like re-tipping a prong on a stone setting, commercially that would be done with a laser - even spendier than teh Sparkie. I would solder it if the rest of the assembly could take it. Gold is such a poor conductor of heat you would be amazed what you can get away with. Andy
