A very similar tool is used in our club workshop and members speak very highly of them. I shall either buy; one or dare I say make something similar.

Dougal,
I have a Diamond Toolholder, in my opinion it's excellent. I was attracted to it by the apparent ease of sharpening as I'm hopeless at grinding ordinary HSS tools. The method of sharpening using the jig that comes with it is really easy, and I find it cuts steel as if it was butter.
Another advantage that became apparent once I started using it is that it can accommodate a large range of centre height on the lathe because you can clamp the toolbit at varying heights in the holder. Mine is the second smallest size, bought for the Myford ML10 I had at the time, but it works just as well on the Colchester Bantam I have now, and also on all 3 lathes in our club workshop ranging from an ML7 to a big Colchester (Mascot?).
It cost me about £60 all in I think, but well worth it.

I have just placed an order for the A8 size, I think this is the same as Dave's. Having read all I could about this tool holder I am convinced that it works and am looking forward to using it. It does seem somewhat expensive but then I do try to make my tooling when I can. John

Following on from my recent post the Diamond Toolholder arrived today, just 5 days in transit. It looks well made and nicely finished.

Dougal, I have used a Diamond Toolholder for some time. The advantages are: - easy to grind, - easy height adjustment, - easy re-hone (frequently with tool in place) for the final cut. Happy cutting, John.

I made one, I think Tel has as well, I've found it a great little tool. There was another thread on diamond tools I started else where on this site.
