David,
I'm fairly new to this hobby, but am am a regular purchaser of Model Engineer and MEW. At this stage, MEW is of more practical use to me, but both magazines get 3 or 4 full readings and for virtually everything I find their content, writing style and quality excellent - and certainly far and away beyond the competing journal at my local W H Smiths.
I do have one small request though - or at least a plead - and that is I wonder if you could be slightly stricter with the big red pen when it comes to editing "Keiths Column"
The content of the column is generally good - when I understand it - but it takes me usually 2 and sometimes 3 complete reads through before I actually understand what is being said. There is some degree of rambling around the subject and Mr Wilson does tend to veer off a subject and then dive back on to it with no warning.
This is in contrast to all the other content in the magazine which is very well editted and laid out indeed.
I know that this is the pot calling the kettle black as my spelling and grammer etc is horrific, but I wonder if you could ask Mr Wilson to break out his writing into seperate para's a little more for seperate subjects, and maybe yourself or a sub-editor could have a juggle of the words a little so that they flow a little more and dullards like me can make complete sense of the article on the first read?
My apologies for being a moaner.
Steve

Dear Steve (and David), Oh no! Please leave Keith Wilson's column as it is! I've been an admirer of Keith's 'ramblings' for years, and find most of what he writes to be of great interest, even if he does appear to veer off course. Personally, I find that it makes "Keith's Column" a more interesting read, and his off-topic ramblings are usually of interest, at least to me. What I didn't like in ME was 'Letter to a Grandson', which I usually found to be a bit on the heavy side, but I'd never write to the Editor to complain about that. 'ME' has to cater for modelers of different levels and topics, and I suppose we have to take the 'rough with the smooth' so to speak. This isn't meant to be a criticism, Steve, just merely another reader's point of view. Geoff

No argument for me in any way that what is written is not very interesting - it is.
Just a request for the odd semi-colon, a few more paragraphs and an sub to juggle some of the sentences.

Sometimes I have to re-read, but it's usually worth it, even with the Swindon-speak, Cheers, Peter

I agree with both writers, however if you really want to "moan" constructively, why do it here? Just write the Editor himself, you can you know, if he does not hear from readers, how can he understand their needs?

Kwil,
DaveMEW is the editor of ME. This is the perfect place to raise issues (so to speak) with him.
