Apart from my interest in South African Steam I also frequent a couple of US live steam boards and one guy posted this link to his video. He fixed his camera on his caboose and then takes us on a spin round a full loop of the Mid south track, behind his Oil fired mogul. At one point the fire goes out as he says he was being to lean with the mixture. homepage.mac.com/tomduncan/iMovieTheater29.htmlIt’s a 72MB download that streams well on my 2Mg broadband slower connections might want to save to the hard drive before watching. It’s a QuickTime movie and if you don’t have QuickTime you can get it at www.apple.com/support/downloads/Sitting here in the middle of winter it’s nice to see what I am spending all the time in the workshop working towards.

Wonderfully insane!! Only in North America do they have that sort of space.
How long is it and is there a track of comparable length in Britain??

According to their web site they have 14,000ft of track I assume that is not all main line but it’s still a tidy amount. www.midsouthlivesteamers.org/It is interesting looking at the track plan which makes a bit more sense of the run. In my experience of west coast US’ 7.”5 gauge tracks, they are miles longer than anything in the UK. Here I don’t think there is much over ½ a mile; there I think at a guess the average main line would be about a mile and a half. I am off to Train Mountain triennial in the summer and there they have 13.5 miles of main line.
