Have a grand 'world tour' John and come back refreshed and keen to complete your Brit. Who knows I may even have completed my boiler by then Jim

This has been a very interesting and instructive thread and my thanks go to John for baring all and showing each of the steps, despite his pain and frustration in the unlucky outcome. There are many instructive points discussed here which are not easily found elsewhere, neither on other thread nor in books that I've seen, especially concerning remedying bad joints, which are virtually assumed not to exist in the literature or dismissed as a minor problem. But it's often difficult to clean bad joints enough as pickle cannot easily penetrate a failed joint, as I've found out to my cost. Another example: the use of rivets - how many, and how to fit them loosely so they can be sealed by brazing yet hold parts sufficiently well together is a tricky judgement not discussed much, and giving me some grief.
