Due to space constraints I can't buy a Myford ML7 etc but wondered if anyone has experience of the mini lathes and mini mills? I am hoping to finish a model traction engine which already has the large castings made - wheels, cylinder block and flywheel. I thought a good mini lathe and mill would be fine for the smaller parts - any recommendations on makes/models welcome.

They are all basically the same machine painted and badged differently. Warco, Arc eurotrade and Axminster are all OK to deal with.
What scale is the engine as this will give a better idea of whats required. Has the motion work been done and what about gears?

G'day John
The topic of Mini-lathes was raised in the "Tools and Tooling" section recently under "Buying small lathe" I had a fair bit to say there so will not repeat myself.
I have both the Mini-Lathe 7x12 and the Mini-Mill X2.
I haven't busted them yet but have tried. Basically I am a satisified user.
IMHO you can't turn anything much larger than 50mm/2" diameter in steel.
BTW they are not all the same nor do they come from the same factory; there are subtle differences.
See my earlier posts, others found them helpful.
Regards Ian

Thanks for the pointer to tools section - I can see there is quite a lot to consider! Basically the big parts are finished including most of the motion.
