Hi, I am rebuilding a 7.25 gauge 1400. The problems with the cylinders and motion work have been corrected. These problems were not as bad as it would have seemed having read those re the 5 inch!I will from time to time post pics if anyone is interested and wants to swap experiences with the GWR 1400 model.

Hi Couleurblue,
Pictures would be fab.
Got a 5" on build still myself, I am not sure of the differences. Was the 7.25 a scaled up version or a new design? I imagine it was just scaled up for cost purposes?
Jeremy.

Hi Jeremy, I would imagine that the 7.25 inch is a scaled up 5 inch. The 1400 has been stripped completely, with a complete overhaul of the cylinders etc. It is now ready for repainting and rebuilding. The only outstanding work otherwise is a new blast pipe and blower, and making and fitting a petticoat. The motion is now completely balanced and free, and I have a sweet run on air.The pictures are before stripping and the early stages of dismantling.
