Following Greasemonkey's post on the Railway channel in the DVD thread. I thought it might be interesting to see what peoples views were on the prospect of this channel starting. It seems like it will try and appeal to all in the Railway fraternity to make its programming interesting to the widest audience. Anything that gets people interested in railways or the various hobbies associated with it has got to be a good thing. I for one know nothing about the smaller electric gauges or for that matter the smaller live steam gauges either According the their survey page www.therailwaychannel.com/survey.htmTheir proposing to charge £2.99 a week, this seems a bit excessive to me. That may just be me being tight but £12 a month seems a lot even for a bespoke channel Jim

I tend to agree with the postscript to Tel's postings "Time not spent in the workshop is time wasted" (or words to that effect). The thought of sitting down in front of a box watching people enjoying themselves when I could be enjoying myself just doesn't make sense. As for others watching, well I suppose there may be some new members entering the hobby as a result of the channel. I can't imaine it will be many though. Now where's the worshop key.....

GBP2.99 is quite a lot more than GBP12 a month. 2.99 a week is 155.48 a year or 12.96 a month. A ploy much loved by car salesmen.

None for me. If they have found a niche which earns them GBP1.5m a year the only problem I have is in not spotting it first. If they really have found something that will make them that much money I really think well done. If they have not and their accountancy is in the Robert Maxwell school well hey it it is not my money they are losing.

Viffer,
Don’t worry it won’t matter how you multiply it; I still won’t be paying £2.99 a week. I do, also like Greasemonky wish them well and if something catches my fancy I may dip in now and again.
