Peter's Railway and the Forgotten Engine.
In the Third book, Peter and his Grandpa extend the line to Yockletts village and find a long lost engine.
There are lots of technical explanations, including, how gears work, a bourdon tube pressure gauge, a governor and how the engine uses steam more efficiently by linking up.....
