Can anyone help me? I have a small horizontal milling machine (ASTRA) which the paperwork says has a 2MT spindle I assume that the arbor sits into this taper with an interference fit, can anyone tell me how I get the arbor off my machine is there some little thing I have forgotten I have tried a very gentle lever between spindle nose and arbor and tried the gentle tap with a small hammer to see if it would just suddenly pop but all to no avail. I'm sure someone out there will be able to help me. Many Thanks in advance.

Hi, I'm not familiar with your particular machine but the two methods I know of are either a taper drift through a slot in the spindle, or a long drift down a hollow spindle. Ron

Thanks for this I have just managed to detach one from the other again many Thanks for spending time answering my problems. I think half my problem was the draw bar which I had not removed and then just a little bit of leverage and bingo it came apart. Again Many Thanks

Hi If it is anything like my Centec, there should be a drawbar on the arbor that passes through the spindle and has a nut on it to pull the arbor into the spindle taper. If this is the case loosen the nut and tap the end of the drawbar, this should free the taper, if there is no drawbar, but the spindle is hollow, put a rod through the spindle and use this to tap the arbor out. obviously be careful not to damage the threads on the drawbar or arbor, and be ready to catch the arbor, as it may pop out and damage the machine table. If the spindle is not hollow then, some kind of wedge between the spindle and arbor may help. Hope this helps.
