List Recently I bought a box of castings for what was described as an Ivatt 'Atlantic'. It was a case of 'make your mind up now or lose a bargain'. When I got these castings home and had a good look at what I had, the castings for the squat chimney and dome made me think I'd got those for Martin Evan's Waverley. A week later and the drawings have turned up and are described as, quote
" 3279 Ivatt 'Atlantic' Ivatt 'Atlantic built 1907 as a two cylinder simple GNR No 279. Rebuilt in 1915 as a four cylinder simple by the late Sir Nigel Gresley. Finally rebuilt in 1938 as a two cylinder simple LNER No 3279 and unique as being the only one of its class."
The drawings state that the engine is designed for 5 inch gauge by W Lynch, drawn by JM Hunter 6.9.50 for Linden Engineering Co Victoria Road Eccleshill Bradford.
The drawings show outside cylinders and outside Walschaerts valve gear and a parallel boiler.
None of my reference books mention any engine that resembles this so I'm asking if anyone can provide any information about this engine or if and what Linden Engineering Co produced and are they still with us?
Thankyou Keith Jones

PS. Actually there is a completed 5" gauge LNER 3279 on web page... www.lynxmodelworks.co.uk/page33.html...so you can see what your box of bits should look like in the end. Yours, Rich.

Hi there Rob, The picture you've posted looks like a standard 3.5" gauge Maisie, as described by LBSC in Model Engineer around the 1930's (and in the book of the relevant article sections). There's details of this loco (and pictures) about half way down this page... www.stationroadsteam.co.uk/lbsc.htm...although note this the typo on the page describing Maisie as a 4-4-0, she is 4-4-2. Yours, Rich.

Keith W, I have recently acquired a part built Ivatt Atlantic 3279 and I am trying to locate a set of drawings for it in order to complete the model. The firm originally producing the drawings are long gone so my only hope appears to be getting a copy from an old set. Could you help? geoffs

The original post was fifteen years ago and Keith last logged in ten years ago. Steve
