I need to start thinking about making steam pipes for my current model. Since I'm commited to metric (at least for this model, I'd get too confused otherwise I know it!) I thought about using 4mm copper pipe like on my last (kit form) model as it 'looks about right'. As usual I can't seem to find any suppliers working in metric although I suppose if I make my own unions the pipe diameter might not be that critical so the nearest imperial might be ok.
Does anyone have any general advice on choosing a suitable diameter before I start?

pipe size is pretty much dictated by the size/style of the engine and the connections fitted thereto. As a rough guide - 1/4x40 union = 1/8" pipe, 5/16 union 3/16" pipe etc
