Has anybody thought of doing a 5193 into 9351 conversion like the WSR did full size.

Is this forum still alive? How many of us are building Prairie tanks. Who is making progress? Anyone!

With so much to do and so little time I just am able to open my sheet 7 drawer in passing these days and dream of building a bit more. Just before Christmas as I was bashing the correct number of rivets into stretchers on my 517 did the front steps. The problem is that every part of these engines is very visible you get very nervous before drilling etc.
I did a You Tube big Prairie tank run the other night, as an alternative to Chuggington which my daughter is addicted to at the moment!!!!!
The main problem with a 9351 is that it needs a tender.
David.
Drilling holes in wood for employment instead of metal.

Is this forum still alive? How many of us are building Prairie tanks. Who is making progress? Anyone! Well the forum is still alive and I am building a Prairie. My progress is painfully slow owing to work commitments and maintenance on my two other tanks locos (pansy and Twin Sisters). Cheers Andy

Nice to see a response.. The Prairie is a mamouth task as I have found out but am plodding on regardless. This is my second year of manufacture and have the chassis about 50% made. It is together with the cylinders and valves also done. I have the advantage of being retired so have more time than when I was in work, Bob

One of my colleagues is a Duc fan.

Andy, Yes I'm afraid so but I am a modern Ducati dude with a 1098 belt drive desmo kit. A big change from model engineering still helps to keep me sane. When you are building a 51 you need some relaxation...

Andy, I am almost finished on making the 8 leaf springs and then I am going to attach the boiler. I reckon that it will take me a couple of months to fabricate the bits and that will fall nicely into the warmer weather for the silver soldering. Have you built your boiler yet? If so are there any snaggs? By the way I went to Western steam for a quote and they came back with £3,050 with a 20 week lead time. I have built a boiler before for my Simplex and although the 51 is a tad more complex I think it is not an insurmountable task.. I to like you have had to do some maintenance on my Simplex since it has done about 60 hours running at fates and shows.
Regards,
Bob
