I have to fit an alternator in place of the dynamo on this engine and beef up the drive belt. I have a 6 groove poly-Vee belt pulley on the alternator but will have to machine a pulley to fit the crankshaft. Would aluminium be suitable for this? I plan to make 7 1/2"OD pulley to fit over the existing 5"pulley. Does this sound feasible? NBMike

Yes. Aluminium should ideally be the correct for marine use, but for inland waterways and that duty, I doubt it will matter.

Can you use a standard taper lok pulley from the likes of Fenner to fit direct to the crankshaft.

The PJ3 engine that the pulley came off had been somewhat adapted during its life. I bought it from a farmer in Belgium who had been using it to irrigate.
