Hi All There is a very early stages, part built 5" Gauge merchant navy on ebay at the moment but the wheels are bugging me and I cant work out why. Can anyone put me out of my misery? Its item number 6041097212. I have no connection with the seller

Hi Andy,
Well, I've never seen drivers without crankpins, haha!! the wheel centres ( bosses) are round, and they, of course should be elongated (if that's the right word), for crankpins.

Hi Geoff Thankyou, I knew it had to be obvious but I just couldn't put my finger on it. Who ever buys it is going to have fun when they realise.

Andy,
I think Mr Bullied would 'revolve' in his grave if he saw those wheels, haha!

"The wheels are the correct BoxPok pattern, CNC machined from solid steel."
Just goes to show : 'Buyer beware', LOL

I suppose it might be possable to rectify the problem, but I guess it would be quicker to start again.Mind you, I think he's chancing his arm a bit,if the purchaser starts wanting his money back...........!

But has he actually broken any rules? Do you read it as 'Merchant Navy frame and some wheels' or 'MN frames and wheels' the two have diffrent meanings. The wheels are just described as being CNC machine BFB wheels. Doesnt say there are suitable for use as driving wheels for a MN. So any buyer could have problems recovering his money.

Andy,
As I quoted from the ad: "The wheels are the correct BoxPok pattern, CNC machined from solid steel."
They may well have been CNC machined, true. But they are NOT 'correct Boxpok' (Bullied-Firth-Brown design), unless of course, they are in fact the bogie wheels, and not the driver, LOL! And even then, they are not correct!
If I didn't know better, and I purchased this item, only to find out the wheels were basically unusable, I would not be a happy bunny, haha.
Has the advertiser broken any rules? Probably not on EBay, but probably so if you purchased from a supplier.

The winner by 1p does not seem to have much of an ME history on ebay. It will be interesting to see what they make of it: possibly an ambitious first project
In defence of the seller (it was not me!) the wheels were shown in close-up for bidders to view and decide for themselves if they met their standards. However it could be worth bearing in mind the seller's user name for the future.
