There's a really powerful search facility available on the content of this board if you use the search button at the top of the page. From looking at the stats it appears underused and I wonder if many of you even know that it's there and how to use it. I'd welcome your usage feedback before I write a simple tutorial pointer to it.

Hello Andy, It does not appear to work for me, that is , unless I need ''educated'' in its use. All the best, John.

it will probably be used more as the site gets older and the number of topics gets bigger. at the mo. I find it easier to go though the titles of the posts as I can never put the right words in the seach

Hi All,
Well, I put in a couple of random words yesterday, like 'Britannia', and got results. But you have to remember to put in the number of days for the search at the foot of the page, or you will only get results for the last week!

Why not make the default 'Right back to the start' ?
After all, if I wanted something in the last week it's more than likely on top of the current list. If I do a search, I'd probably expect it to be 'sometime last year' -- but in reality, probably 4 years ago !
Anyway, the search facility is really useful, the system is quite an archive already.
All the best

Why not make the default 'Right back to the start' ? Now you would have thought that would be a good idea wouldn't you? Sadly there is no setting for that in the administrators console so I cannot oblige. Cheers Andy

Is it possible to make the default 1000 days ? Would it be possible to add 365 days to the default once a year ? ( Doesn't HAVE to be on your birthday !

I should have made it clear in my previous post that there is no provision for the Administrator to make any changes to the default settings on the search pane - sorry! Andy

Hi guys, I just made a search a search re Beaver Milling machines (posted by KeithW). At first the only thing that the search engine found was 'beavering'!!!! So I 'beavered' away at it and instead of 365 days (!!??) I put in 500 days. Could it have been that far back? Well, yes, the search found the postings, dated December 2004! My, how time flies! But the search did work, so just remember to put in 100's of search days ;D Geoff (In soggy Kernow )
