Hello Paul
Thank you for sharing your crank axle build. I will use your technique to build my crank axle. I do have one question about it, how do you put the eccentrics on the axle, are they the split type?
All the best

Built from 1889 the class 27 were fitted with David Joys valve gear so did not need eccentrics, amazing what you can find on a quick search after tapping a few keys on the computer.
David. Knee deep in eccentrics, my latest being of cast iron with mild steel straps.

Another way is to Araldite them together, let it harden, do you machining and then separate by gentle low temp heat or a light tap with a piece of wood. Works wonders.

Yes the Poly Collet crank axle is a wonder of the modern age and would make a wonderful exhibit in its own right, For anyone not sure of what we speak, it is a machined from solid crank with all 4 eccentrics as well. Quite simple, just ask the computer to remove all the metal that is not Crank Axle. and in 7 1/4"
The ancient Chinese were masters of this, and in carving a Giant Buddha at Leshan, just simply removed all the rock that was not Buddha, and later just remove all the rock that was not steps so the tourists could climb down to admire. Then when it became more visited after the cultural revolution dig out another set with tunnels the other side. It is 60 metres tall!
David. having just finished his 4 th crank axle.

there is only two word to describe your project " great job " . I have used exactly the same process ( loctite and pins ) to build cranked axles for few of my engines and it works fine , you will have no problem with the axle .
