Hi Everyone, Having just returned from darkest Devon, from the Holsworthy Model Show, where I espied a member of another model society proudly wearing his club's smart sweatshirt, I thought that perhaps there might be an interest in our own 'Club' here having its own sweatshirt. With getting on for 700 members (OK, I know, not that many are active - yet!), but if a Model Engineering society of 20 or so members can produce the goods, any reason why we couldn't? There could be a member-designed logo, 'Model Engineer Clearing House', and the website address, or whatever. I've no idea how such an item could be marketed, even if there was an interest, and I appreciate that not everyone lives in the UK, so postage and packing would be an issue. What do you all think? At least you would no longer have to meet at exhibitions, wearing a carnation in your lapels, carrying a copy of the 'Times', (or in Phil's case, the 'Sun', haha ) under your arm! I wonder what our Administrators might have to say on the subject? And sorry for publishing under 'Engineering', but I couldn't think of a more suitable place! ;D

Actually, it was a gentle dig at the warring factions over on the 'karma' thread - a little constructive punning, if you will

I've been lurking in the background over this one. I suppose it depends on price, I guess you wouldn't get a huge order. I'd be inclined to buy one.

I guess that if you bought in bulk, you could knock 'em out at about £10 a throw, the biggest bugbear would be getting them printed.Still it's not what you know, but who you know.....I'd be up for one, maybe 2,wash & wear?

You can count me in for a couple too. Local shop that we use for our club, does Fruit of the Loom Polo shirts at £6.85 each with 5000 stitches of embroidery. Sweat shirts and Fleeces are also available. VAT and carriage extra, and minimum order numbers depending on design. www.onestopnorthampton.co.uk if anyone wants to follow-up. Heyfordian 18

Hi Phil, Might be a little more than a tenner, but you are all very rich after yesterday's Budget aren't you? Haha. I'll keep plugging this and see how much more 'interest' there might be. At the moment there aren't too many folk tripping over their swarf to 'order' one (or two), hahaha. If and when there's more 'affirmative' interest, we can look at the colour(s), design and so on. I wonder what Andy C might have to say on the subject?? Oh, and the rains have arrived!

Yes I'd be interested as long as the cost was not really high. Need to change out of the present sweatshirt anyway ;D No rain in Sussex yet Brian

Why not agree a logo design, and a colour for the sweatshirts purchase some iron on stencils, and hey presto you have a "cub" sweatshirt. As numbers are likely to be fairly small the commerscial boys may want an arm and a leg to supply.

I'd be in-ter-est-ted in a coupla shirts if'n the price was right.
Can't cost too much 'cos our Mod.Eng.Club bought a few with embroidered Club Badge in 2 colours (if you count black as a colour) and I know that most of the membership have to be prised from their money by the use of brute force, stealth or threats.

Andy,
As a matter of int-er-est, how much does your club charge for the shirts? Most seem to be round about £15 - £20 I think, but I suppose that depends on the quantity one purchases, in each size.

The last time I had to buy a load, we managed to get a price that enabled us to sell them at under £10, with postage, and still made a small profit. That was only a couple of years ago, so prices whouldnt have changed much since.
