Dear All
Does anybody out there please have any photos of my loco ( built by a Pat Butcher) from the 29th Dec./3rd. Jan. 1999 - International Model Show @ Olympia.
It won the Charles Kennion Memorial Cup and a silver medal at the same show.
It would be lovely to have as a momento.
It is a 5" gauge 9F to the Les warnett design.
thanks

Why not ask the guy you bought it from? But then again, think of the satisfaction if you'd built it yourself over however many years.

This seems to me to be a fatuous and unnecessary comment. For all you know the poster may have built engines of his own in addition. You seem to disapprove of people buying engines, but if they didn't what would become of them on their builder's demise? Stuffed and mounted or more probably scrapped as they are often too big to be ornaments. It's far better for someone else to acquire and appreciate them.

It may be worth trying to find out what issues of Model Engineer covered the show as there is a high probability that the engine was pictured if it was a medal winner.

Correct me if I am wrong DJ , what I understood from your comment was that he could ask the builder for the photos but he ( the builder ) may not part with the photos .

If that was indeed the case then I apologise for my comments.

Jason Helpful and thank you Jason, I shall get some back issues of the relevant magazines and have a look - good idea! TO ALL THE HELPFUL POEPLE IN THIS FORUM - THANK YOU.To Teakfreak - I am not sure excatly what Dr.J did mean??? I would love to know as i did find his comment odd? Clarification from you Doctor John. What I meant was simple; I just wondered if anyone had any pictures of it from the show?? The original builder ( and what an excellent if not outstanding engineer he is) was kind enough to supply lots to accompany the loco, and I am keen that all that credits the original builder should stay with the loco, lest that is ever forgotten. Just wanted a few pics from the show as a momento?

Dear Teakfreak I am not sure what Dr. John actually means, I was nearly offended. Shawki Shlemon has tried to offer his interpretation. i am sure that Dr. John would almost certainly want to clarify and explain and that it is innocent? It would be silly to use this helpful forum for that rather ridiculous opinion about some stigma attached to buying a model. what else should happen to them??? perhaps they should all be melted and used to make new models??

The show write up appears in ME volume 182, issue no 4088 dated 26 February 1999. There is a small photo of the loco and 20 or so lines about it and the builder. I have scanned the relevant pages so if you would like a copy let me have an email address and I'll get them off to you.
Cheers, Andy
