Hello there, I thought you might like to see my first effort at "things mechanical" for over 50 years (I am a retired electronics engineer) I had quite a bit of mechanical experience during my 5 year apprenticeship which proved useful all my life. I used a "cheapo" Chinese lathe and mill which I bought recently, had a few minor problems with the lathe but they did the job. Next project is "Perseus" a mill engine designed by Edgar Westbury many years ago Regards Alan

That looks good Alan. Well done. And I like Perseus as a design too. Good luck with that. John

I've thought about that particular one but was worried my lathe would be too small.
What is the size of the flywheel and what is the maximum height about the bed needed to complete the machining?

Hi WSS,...you will need a lathe of at least 3 1/4'' centre height...mine is Myford speed ten... the flywheel is 3'' diam...this is a good little engine to build, All the best for now, John.

Hi WSS, I built my 10V using a HobbyMat MD65 lathe including the flywheel. Centre height 65mm or approx 2.6".

I seem to recall reading in ME about someone who built a 10V using an Adept. (About 2 1/4" centre height.)
Of course, you can always build one without any machinery. Tubal Cain did (a 10H) , and called it Handmaiden.
