At the recent Bristol Model Engineering exhibition I came across a new poster for Redwing Engineering and PM Research products which are now available again in the UK. It seems that Forest Classics have recently been appointed UK distributors and are currently awaiting their first stock order from the States. Products should be on display at the forthcoming Midland ME Exhibition in Warwickshire. Forest Classics website is: www.forest-classics.co.ukI have no connection with the company whatsoever. Hope this helps - John

I have just finished a water-cooled Red Wing. I bought the original castings from Engineers Emporium but had some issues with them - they were cast in the UK and were a bit skimpy dimension-wise in a number of places. Forest Classics are importing genuine US castings, and have been extremely helpful on several occasions. I have now bought some accessories like the buzz coil from them, and can recommend them.
John - how's your Red Wing coming along?
John.

Hi John, It's a long time since the last post but I have moved house since and had to set up the workshop again from scratch. I have made a start on Redwing now and have done most of the machining on the main casting. The cylinder head and valves are finished as is the carb (I did this whilst waiting for some tooling to arrive). Now working on the single-piece crankshaft - all is well, so far!
How's yours?
John

The photo is the lathe I made from Pm Research in the USA (2007 ) and found the parts to be of a very high standard. The light above the lathe doe's work but that is an extra to the drawing. I have also tried to make the Milling machine but it is now lurking some where under the bench because in its construction there is need to machine / make a worm and gear l which I cannot make on my lathe. Nice lathe. Could you make the worm and wheel on that?

Hi John. Sorry - nearly two years have passed since you asked how my Red Wing was! Shows how often I frequent forums (fora?)! Its fine. Since the water cooled one I have built an air-cooled version from the PM Research castings from Forest Classics. They are both amazingly reliable, starting first time over compression virtually every time. I'm intending to do another IC engine as soon as I get the present project finished - a 1/12 scale Best steam traction engine that I started just over a year ago. John.
