Hello My Friends here ia a little detail that you may find interesting. The crews would often put insulators on the ends of the chair legs to allow the chair to slide around without tearing up the floor. Happy Model Building Jack Attachments:

Here is a shot of the end platform with it's door and windows. The sash windows all operate and if lifted will remain in position. The door knob must be turned to open the door and the tiny key can be inserted and used to lock it. Attachments:

The lamps light and are powered by two AA batteries hidden in one of the bunks along with the switches that control them and the outside marker lamps. The diamond tuck upholstery had me tearing my hair out. The plan was to make actual diamond tuck with thin deer skin and padding but the folding of the leather just wouldn't work. Some things won't scale down. So the upholstery was simulated with carved wood bits and paint. The tiny Indian blankets are cigar box blankets. They were included in boxes of cigars as promotional items back in the teens and twenties. It's simply amazing what you can find online. Attachments:

The little rack on the wall is the fusee and torpedo holder. The cylindrical bits on top are fusees. They were flares with a spike sticking out the bottom. If an unscheduled stop was made one of the brakeman would drop off or run back a mile or so and light one of the fusees and stick it in a sleeper. This would alert a following train to slow down. Then the brakeman would light another fusee and stick it in a sleeper about a quarter mile behind the stopped train. This would signal a following train to stop. Then when it was time to leave the brakeman would only have to remove the close fusee and didn't have to walk back a mile. The torpedos were an explosive device that could be stuck to the track to basically accomplish the same thing as a fusee. If a locomotive passed over a torpedo the engine crew would hear the explosion. Attachments:

Last one for now. A shot of the stove and sink. The water tank can be filled with water and then you can put the cork in the sink and fill it up so the crew can have a wash up. Too much fun. I hope you have enjoyed the series of photos and descriptions of the caboose. Hopefully some of you have been inspired to get out in the shop and have a go. Happy Model Building Jack Attachments:
