Looks great klendo . Is that tender for a 3 1/2 Gauge black five (doris)? Are you going to finish it in LMS or BR. Would love to see some pictures of the locomotive too. Thank you for posting some pictures of your tender

Nice work Klendo.
Just one small criticisim, slotted headed fastenings, they would look better if they were replaced with hex headed bolts.

Hi klendo, Fine work on the tender, I wish my one was as far advanced.( see thread "casting accuracy") I am at the running chassis stage and have been toying with constructing the body work from sheet steel and then fitting a brass water tank inside. I wondered what yours is made from? Any thoughts would be gratefully received. I am building a Doris and am looking to save costs where possible and brass is expensive when compared to steel.
Good luck with painting!

Steve,
thanks for the message. My tender is made from sheet stainless steel, a sod to work with agreed but it did the trick. I see what your saying about costs, however if your going to make the outside work in steel and a tank inside out of brass im sure there wont be a lot of money saved and would be twice the work.

Hi klendo, Dead impressed with the photo's of your loco and tender. I will be "over the moon" if I can achieve results half as good. Further to my question about materials, I have been given a sheet of brass that will make the tender sole plate, (kick plate from a pair of double doors, 17 g.)and another friend has promised me a sheet of 20g brass big enough to make the sides and back so I am sorted. I would never have thought of using stainless because of the problems I have had in the past working it, but having recently replaced the dishwasher I have a quantity of mild steel that would have been pressed into use!!! Nothing gets thrown out here!?
Congrats on a superb build.
Regards Steve
