when a manhole is fitted to a boiler would this manhole just be used for access into the boiler, or do these manhole's also get used as a steam outlet stacks?.

On full size boilers the manholes are used for accsess to get inside the boiler, there is a nack to do this. Common resons are clear sediment, remove/cut tubes up and remove desacle tubes ect. Its a very dirty and uncofortable job and definatly not for the clostophobic. Also as you work when you try to get out you may find you cant, you have to remove your overalls and even cloths depending how mutch you have expanded. Hope this helps Regards Wayne ;D

On full size boilers, manholes are never used as a steam outlet, as a slight aside, in the station I worked in, in the 80s the scalers used to go into the boilers at over 50degC, the hotter it was the easier it was to scale, I tried going in once with them out of curiousity and came back out about 10 secs later it was like going into a furnace, these guys must have been made of asbestos!!
