Can any body recommend how to seal the threads inside the boiler? I have several thread connections to and from the regulator which I have tried PTFE tape on which seems fine under the working pressure of 90psi but when I get the boiler tested higher than this the begin to leak and continues even then at the 90psi working. I have had Loctite Hydraulic suggested but when I looked at the spec it only works up to about 100C, and as far as I know water boils at 160C at 90psi. Locitite have another thread sealer 592 which looks like it will handle the temperature, but my fear is that it might make removing the regulator for any kind servicing very difficult!!! Any suggestions welcome.

Hi, you will have to check but I think the hi temp loctite sealers are a type of silicone. They do not have much strenght or locking action but are obviously good sealers....

Thanks for the advice Denis, I have seen Loctite 542 in Blackgates, but they did not seem to know what temperature it can handle. I have looked up the data sheet which suggests up to 150c. When you have used this before has it been inside a boiler where it is under pressure leading to high temperature, or fittings in the open air where the temperature will be lower?

Cheers Rob
This looks like an excellent product which I can see will help me with some other problems I have!!! But for sealing the threads on my regulator I think it will weld them shut for ever making servicing virtual impossible!!! But I will buy some and try experimenting with it to see what it is like once set.

Jason,
I know for a fact that I have used Loctite 542 on fittings on the outside of boilers, for example where a valve or similar did not line up correctly on the manifold etc with great success but in all honesty I have used it over the past years in so many places that I cannot remember for sure if I have used it in a boiler or not.
I find the stuff excellent and have had it sealing fittings on my Romulus for around 15 years.
Sorry but the old grey matter is not as good as it used to be.

Have you tried dropping loctite a phone call or an email. They normally reply in a couple of days and will be able to recommend something suitable.
Cheers

Just had a quick look at the loctite site and what about loctite 545 hydraulic/pneumatic thread sealer - seems to get stronger with temperature! Data sheet is here - tds.loctite.com/tds5/docs/545-EN.pdfCheers Dave
