Hi All,
Recently I have been fortunate to purchase a rolling chassis and 'new' copper boiler for a Maid of Kent. The loco is obviously quite old, and I have replaced most of the rusted or missing parts. She has the original Joy valve gear, which I intend to keep. Fortunately, I found also that I had almost all of the ME's from the late 40's for the construction notes.
having recently found this great site, and before I start re-assembly of the whole loco (all of it has been stripped), I wondered if anyone here owning or building a Maid, had any useful tips, etc. I can't see anything that I've missed, but there's probably something.
The copper boiler, is a professional job, but must be 15 years or so old (that's how long the other guy had it!) and never steamed. Hopefully it will still hold water and steam, LOL. Thanks for any advice.

Geoff,
One of the guys in the Bromsgrove club has a Maid. It's a nice looking loco but can be a bit light on its feet for passenger hauling.
It has the Joy valvegear and AFAIK it runs well.

Hi John,
Thanks for that. Must arrange a visit to the club one day, when I visit my son in Bedworth!!
I'll have to add some weight to my Maid, which hopefully I will begin to reassemble this week. It's certainly a long time since I drove one, or for that matter last saw one! I wonder what the purists will say when they see it painted in Brunswick Green? LOL!
