Peter's Railway to the Rescue. Just out!
In the Fourth book, Peter and Grandpa have plenty more railway and steam adventures. This time their miniature steam railway across the farm becomes the village lifeline.
The main construction project is the building of a watermill to generate electricity. this introduces the reader to many fundamental engineering and scientific ideas, including energy, power and electricity.
Following the format of the previous books, the story is accompanied by how-it-works pages which explain the technical aspects of the story. They are at the end of relevant chapters and do not interfere with the story. However many readers seam to read the technical pages first!
