Hi Tel As you can see in this view, my spindel bearing is splitted and I can lock the spindel after indexing. I don't get idea about splitting front and back of the spindel bearing Mogens http://m_kilde.skysite.dk/

The bearing is separated from and rear so you can accurately set the bore/fit with the rear part and retain that by locking the nuts. Then the front section serves as the parking brake. Your idea will work, and I have made spindles that way, I just think the twin setup, with split CI bushes in each, is a bit better. The spindexer that I made for the shaper years ago is even simpler - no adjustment at all in the bearing and relies on the deep index holes for locking - pretty primitive, but it does the needful.
