I am in the process of restoring an old horizontal single and would like to make a black and white chequer pattern floor. I have tried plastic squares for tiles but they do not convince me. After searching the net I could not find any information. Anyone got any experience or bright ideas?
I can remember some details in ME a while ago. If I sit down and look for them I will be side tracked by other articles and it will take three months to find.

I can be very hard to get a convincing tile effect. Laminex offcuts, cut into individual tiles is about the closest I've come. They do look better if you leave a little gap between the tiles and grout 'em tho'.

Thanks Tel. I'll keep my eyes open for some. I looked at dolls house decorations as well.

I've done it by using a piece of white Formica (High Pressure Laminate), covering it with masking film though sticky back plastic will do, cut a grid pattern over it with a scalple, peel off alternate squares then spray black. Once the paint is dry peel off the remaining squares. J
