I understand that about a dozen ex MW Duchess builders have commissioned Lynx to complete their models. I commissioned John at Lynx to make some parts for my MW Duchess. To date I understand he has made the motion(?) for these models only, not bad in two years. More worryingly he has raided my Visa account (not the first apparently) and does not reply to my emails or answer the phone any more. I also understand that at least one of the Duchess builders is now retrieving his Duchess and taking the hit! I feel sorry for all the Duchess builders hit by the demise of MW, now another Company looks as though they may possibly be having a hard time. Anyone have any further info?

Crikey, don't know if it's the power of this forum or what. Just had an email from Lynx saying there is a cheque in the post!

I must admit I enquired about some items at Lynx models. It was the sand boxes actually for a 5" duchess. Have I heard a peep? Nope bugger all

Well guys---I did try to warn people earlier this year about LMW but was locked out to start with and then "shunted" into the "off-topic" heading plus a sarky comment from BOADICEA ( I haven't forgotten that, my friend !!). And there are a lot more out there who are having/have had, similar experiences but feel unable to come forward . Incidentally their MD is also a member on this forum----Are you going to censor this as well , TEL ?

Yes, I have, although not directly. I had to do a boiler test on a simplex recently and had no choice but to fail it. Lacking the time to do it himself, the gentleman had paid Lynx to fit a new boiler for him, made by someone else. Lynx returned it, eventually, after charging his card several times what he said he would, with an assurance that it had been pressure tested and steam tested. I however couldn't get it to hold pressure the fittings were leaking so bad, I mean there was water pouring out of the draincocks and blast nozzle, steady stream from the guage glass nuts, valves leaking at manifold joints, and water flooding from the injector overflow. I cannot see how Lynx had done it unless it was without fittings attached to the boiler, and how he steamed it in that condition I just don't know.

Yes, I eventually received a cheque, needless to say I cannot recommend their services. Lynx intended to complete about 10 of the MW Duchess class loco's but I have not heard of a single one being completed after 4 years(?), but I do know he took payment in advance.

What a crap hobby this is when it comes to suppliers. It must be bloody dispiriting to get ripped off once (MW) get a hope of seeing something for your money only to get ripped off again. I reckon in the last ten years I must have lost at least £5K to fly by nights, overpromise’s and under deliverers.
I am generally fairly business savvy and very careful about the T&C’s but still get caught out. These days I won’t place an order for anything with other than a very low deposit or preferably cash on delivery, and I still get trapped. Now with new suppliers with no track record to speak of I always get a home address, as I have found turning up unannounced for a “chat” works wonders.

It loks as though this post has gone quiet, I doubt from staisfied customers looking at the trail above.
However I think it is fair to say that my own dealings with Lynx (some time ago now) - rebuilding my Brit (no,not Modelworks!), and then my Class 4, I was fairly OK with the service. Yes it was late, but as one corresondent above says - this is a terrible hobby when it comes to suppliers other than your standard drills and mills etc. I always found John Clarke a reasonable guy, but I also had a formal contract with him regarding progres and payment - that is simply drawing on my background as a professional engineer.
