Does anybody remember in the last few years Gordon Smith (safety valve) describing a new type of regulator using a ball either in EIM or Model Engineer Thanks

This was posted a long time ago so my comments are probably going to be out if date but here goes. Yes I have made three regulators to Gordon Smith design and very good they are. They are easy to make and fit and are almost leak free in use. It impresses the club boiler inspector when he pumped it up and watched the pressure gauge needle sit happiley at 135 psi for several minutes.

You need to host them somewhere like Imgur, then use the link from there in your reply here in a link.

Hi jo479 I have copies of the pages you are asking for as I built and fitted one to my Class2T and is brilliant for control. They were published in Engineering in miniature in 2008 and 2009. One is Gordon Smith is in 2008 It started on page 371, but unfortunately when copying this got missed off.and other is Thompson May 2009. There are a number of locos now in Colchester Society fitted with this lifting ball design.
Hope this might help you, if you cannot find them let me know and I will see if I can copy them for you.
Donald

Hello Donald, thanks for the info, I'll ask in the Club to see who has EIM for those years, sadly my Club gave all our copies to a new member who read? them and then binned the lot, some model engineer he is.
