Hi all, I have got to a point where I am painting the wheels of my A3 in apple green. Has anyone got any ideas on the best method for getting a perfect black edge to the tyres and the white lining on them. A lining pen may do the white line but the black is about 3/16ths thick which would be more than a lining pen I guess??? Cheers, Mike

Mike,
Use a lining pen to paint the edge of the black band and then use a fine brush to fill in the broad section. If you paint onto the tread, wipe it clean using lighter petrol. Best see Bob Moores lining pen instructions, all will be revealed.
I use one of Bob's pens, no connection with him whatsoever apart from a personal recommendation. A superb tool!
Dave.

Hi Mike,
I was wondering if you had a beugler wheel tool with the narrowest wheel? What gauge are you working in? the thinnest is about right for LNER lines in 7.25 but will be a bit too wide in 5" etc.
Another way which I have used successfully is to use a material called Frisk Film. This is a low tack masking material which cuts beautifully. You can also buy for a few quid a cutting compass. Then you can cut out circles or bands, even very narrow ones and work that way.....
I find that the lining pen is very difficult to get a constant width line. You have to pull it very slowly and evenly, and even then you will have fun getting the join invisible!!!
Hope that helps Chris.
