Hi all, Ive built my hornblocks out of ms 3/4 x 3/8 blocks 1 1/2" long as per drawings, making my horn blocks 1 1/2" high. Ive noticed the cast horn blocks are 1 5/8"high and higher on the Super Simplex. Has anyone else built them the same as me and did it cause any problems ? Is this one of the drawing errors you heard about? Thanks ,Regards Giles

Never Noticed. Well, well. I'd never noticed. You're right. I've run my Simplex for 30 years and it's never been a problem. I built my Simplex just the same as you've done and never thought to look at the casting drawing. I've had a glance at it and unless I'm missing something; I cannot see why the dimensions are different. I would have thought that the 1/4" travel of the axlebox should be enough to take the undulations out of the track. Also, if the cast ones are used then the recess in the main frames would need to be larger because of the way the cast horns 'pocket' into them on the inner side. Chris.

Perhaps Martin Evans used horns from another of his designs? I have used the built up design and no problems are evident so far.
