With all this talk of filters and adapting aquarium aerator stones no one has suggested what type of fish I should keep in my tender tank. They would need to be small and used to restricted sunlight so I'm thinking of some sort of small cave fish. Any suggestions? Jim

Hi Jim
temperate or tropical ? if the latter you may need to look at steam heating the tender tank LOL

Despite rumours that I'm putting a viewing window in my tender so the kids can wave to the fish as we go by I've actually been marking out the spacing and location of lines for rivets on the tender's sides While marking out the 'clear area' where the British Railways unicycling lion sits I found the detailed GA drawing of the BR1 tender in 'Building Locomotives from Kits on p578-9 ME April 2015 shows the wording banner sitting above the longitudinal line of rivets when all the photos of actual BR1 tenders show it sitting below the row of rivets. I'd been working to the drawing so as a result a slight readjustment of the 'clear area' was needed and thankfully before I'd drilled the holes. Ive also checked to make sure I have enough rivets for the job as invariably a new batch always seems to be slightly different from the old batch. Jim A late edit: I decided to add the photo which shows the rivet lines being marked out using a tee square I've had for ages. The centre 'square clear area' for the BR totem is clearly marked to stop me drilling holes where they aren't needed...fingers crossed. The marker pen lines will wash off with water which is important as the black lines will bleed through any attempt to paint over them.

agricultural booms have little fitters with fine gauze in them. ideal for injectors. Any farm supply place should carry them in stock. Last time i bought them i paid something like $2 each. Amazing what you hear around the traps. Hope that helps

Its been a fiddly couple of days but the tender sides have now had all the holes for the rivets drilled and the rivets fitted, 240 at last count. The next job will be to make the ladder as the fittings for it need to be in place before the main tender body is assembled and water proofed. There are lots of methods for laying out and drilling the rivet lines and I found this method worked well for me. Jim

Hi Jim, Looks like you have been busy! Nice job! How long to do the riveting...most of the day I'd guess.
Cheers Kerrin

Hi Jim...looking great...a tip which Chris has noted in his great book, try to have the fittings, steps, handles etc removable to aid in painting later. Makes rubbing down the final coat much easier and gives an all over smooth finish....keep up the good work sir...

Thanks Pete, it's a very good point you make and one to keep constantly in mind as we add details to the main body of the project. It's the reason for example, that I've made the capacity and tender number plates removable.

Well it's true, 'good things come to those who wait' The dear wife knits tea cosies for the local Op Shop and needed some teapots to display her work on. So a trip to the other Op Shop produced some much loved 2nd hand teapots at the right price and lo and behold one of which contained this fine mesh tea strainer. I now have a water filter and it will sit neatly beneath the filler cap. Now the next question: Do Injectors prefer English Breakfast or Earl Grey? I think it's time for a soothing ale. Jim.

Right you are Mike. I'll need to stock up for the longer club runs (once I get 70036 in steam) as our son in law, good Yorkshire lad that he is from Otley took our last packet. Jim

It never ceases to amaze me how well known our local brew is. A few years ago we went to visit our American daughter-in-laws family in Plattsburgh, New York State. Not wishing to miss out on our favourite brew we took a box of Yorkshire tea with us. Guess what they had for sale in their local supermarket, yes, Yorkshire tea. 😊

It's part of a world wide take over by the Yorkists Mike, our local Woolworths has it in stock too and pushing our local Billy Tea aside. It's a worry Jim

Hi Jim, Just remember that the "old boys" used to use a tannin based water treatment for there boilers, I think you are in good company!
