Hi Folks, I've just bought a nearly complete Simplex which I'm hoping to get steaming as a "quick" project. The boiler is nearly complete just requiring the dome ring, however it looks like some of the tubes have slipped during silver soldering. This means several are flush with the firebox tube plate and one is a few thou below. Is this a problem? The tube plate is 1/8" copper so I would expect them to still have a decent joint area and it's probably Easy Flo2 so there are minimal fillets on the tubes that do protrude. Any thoughts to a repair if it is not suitable? I'll try and take a photo and add it to the thread. Thanks Bryan

In our code in OZ its required to have 1.5 mm protrusion to form the fillet , however I think you should have a talk with the club boiler inspector who is going to test and certify your boiler and see what he thinks , these things are not black and white issues , the silver solder appears to be in good form, may be the hydro test will prove one way or the other . As for the repair ,everything is possible but the tube have to be heated to melting point on both sides to be able to move it or the tube/s must be removed a new one/s fitted , I think the second option is easier than the first .
