Now this is an inspiration for a Monday morning, my question is, did we all work harder when we travelled on proper railways? I can just about remember them, grey and leaking steam while going to see my Grandma from Manchester Victoria. 1963 was cold!!!! David.

Thanks for good wishes. Seems a while :(since I used to bicycle to Spalding to board the 08.30 or 10.30 to Kings Cross (Grimsby/Cleethorpes to Kings Cross), which towards the end of steam was headed by a Britannia (Robin Hood, Clive of India, Sir John Moore, Sir Christopher Wren and Boadicea) after being upgraded from a B1. Seems completely daft now that I never took any pictures. Then came what were later called Class 31, 37 and 47 (in that order). Have never subscribed to the names Boudica, Boudicca, Buduica, Bonduca though. Yes, reckon we did work harder when we travelled on real railways - most of us did then - there was more real, hard, physical work done, rather than the "Blue Sky", "Picking low hanging fruit", "focus meetings" that go on now. In 1964 you did not need a focus meeting at 08.00 on a cold November morning when starting to pick potatoes - you were pretty well focussed already! You did not need an appraisal after it either - you just hobbled onto your bike. However, you were done then - you were not expected to take any work home. Regards, Bo
