..... and thought I would have a go at making one. I made one from 3/8" square stock. I then made one from 1/4" stock. And then I had a go at one from 1/8" stock, actually measured much nearer 3mm. I feel quite satisfied, since I spent my life in electronics engineering, not mechanical. I did most of the work with a Proxxon mini drill and X-Y table.

The original "old" one doesnt look too bad, and the latest effort, much better.
Dont know if you have seen how much they charge for them now. Might as well be made of gold instead of brass! (Wont affect me as I have loads, mostly WW2 vintage.)

(Wont affect me as I have loads, mostly WW2 vintage.) Won't affect me either Alan, I've gone over to audio modulation on my phone. ;D Well done syncopator, it would be a natural progression to attempt a model deltic engine now. Try here

Looking at that first image with all the linkages joined together put me in mind of a task I am planning (which means scratching my head about).
I am about to try and replace a worn side rod, the bearing hole is now an oval, but to remove it I have to dimsantle a link with a poin in it. Can anyone advise if the pin in the linkage would have typically been pressed in with say a vice? I have seen roll pins and split pins for sale, been thinking of using one or the other to put back and assume they are stainless steel. Any thoughts or advice anyone?
Regards Joe
