Hi All
I am planning to come to the UK in the middle of September and one item on the shopping list is a decent, calibrated, 4 inch pressure gauge so I can test the boilers I'm intending to make over here.
Can anybody recommend a manufacturer/supplier of a suitable gauge, my guess is a pressure range of 0 to 250 or 300 psi, liquid filled ?
Many thanks for the advise.
Kind Regards

Hi Dave, I picked up a very nice 100mm, 300psi, Class 1 gauge made by Ashford Instrumentation Ltd. That's oil filled and came with a calibration certificate. www.ashfordinstrumentation.com/hvac-pressure-products.asp?subcategory=1I actually got it s/h off Ebay for £18 (only used once!) so I don't know what the full price should be. I can't see any prices on their website. John

Hi John
Many thanks for the info, I'll follow up with them and see what the cost is, let you know how it goes.
By the way, the workshop looks very good, now you just have to find the time to put it to good use.
Kind Regards

Hi John
100mm pressure gauge ordered from Ashford's, nice to deal with, in stock, 300psi, liquid filled, 3/8 BSP connection, rear mounting bracket. 40 pounds and 10 pounds for the test certificate.
The cost for a calibrated unit was going to add 30 pounds, so I figured for my own use the test certificate will be fine and if required I can get it calibrated over here.
Many thanks for the initial info and the best thing is that I know I have a good bit of equipment from a reputable company.
Kind Regards

Hi Dave, Glad you got sorted. I think the class 1 gauges are supposed to have an accuracy of 1% of the full scale reading. That should be good enough I think. All I've got to do now is build the test rig to go with the gauge! A chap at our club has given me some plastic hydraulic pipe and some fittings to go with it. John

Hi John
The test rig will be built when I get back for the UK at the end of September, I have an old Simplex in bits and need to test the boiler to see what I have got. I have found a good hardware shop in KL that has all sorts of pressure line fittings (valves, T's soft copper pipe etc) so I will be on a shopping trip after my return. Just have to remember to get a 3/8 BSP Tap and Die set.
I want to make a solid test rig that can be used with no fiddling around and most of all a pressure release valve so I can release th pressure without having to crack a union (as I have seen on other test rigs). I have a nice sheet of 1.5mm brass so I think that will be used for the water tank so I can practice my tank making before moving on to making a new rear tank for the Simplex, complete with drain in the bottom, and a second commercial valve to easily drain away the water.
The gauge I ordered has a rear mounting bracket so it can be attached to a backboard and not wobble around in the breeze.
I'm currently making a hand pump for a Tich and if that works OK, I.ll make a larger unit for the test rig.
Let you know how it goes.
Kind Regards
