Just out of curiosity how much did the Modelworks Britannia kit cost and when did production start? Furthermore does anyone know how many Modelworks ones were produced and how many Winson versions were delivered prior to them going under? No doubt it would have been pay deposit and then monthly instalments like the 1400 class?
Regards all, Peter

I'll have to have a look at my invoices to check, I bought on a 36 month option. I think Modelworks did two batches of Britannia's of 50 each, but don't quote me on that! They did a limited number of scaled up 7.25" as well.
Winson's did about two runs previously I think also, and there are a few tell tale differences between the two, including the use of more aluminium parts and a joint in the tender bunker on the Winson versions.
There's quite a few out there! I'd be fairly confident that the last batch of Modelworks was a batch of 50, I've got a photo of a pallet with about that number of components on. John was in touch with a fair number of builders who came across his website. There's been about 10 odd go through stationroadsteam for resale in various states of completion or non-completion and one or two through ebay. Mine is about a quarter built and it wouldn't surprise me if there were a few still in boxes. Mine was for quite a long time!

Modelworks January 2005 brochure gives a total price of £9584 and shows the Brit as a "new release" but I don't know which batch that was.

Hi Peter I paid around £8000 for mine from Station Road steam. They have one at the moment that looks to me like a Winson one. and are asking £9500 for it. www.stationroadsteam.com/stock%20pages/5156/index.htmAs a basic starting point (All the heavy engineering done) they are not bad. some of the cosmetic stuff like ejectors, steam heating valves etc are awful. but Doug Hewson sells superb versions. Just say the amount quickly and don't let on too much to the domestic authorities and you'll be fine. Its only money after all Andrew

Re: How much did the MW Britannia kit cost ? I still have the Winson cataloge circa 1999, but on the corner it says 50 th anniversary special edition. The loco described is William Shakespeare 70004, price being £ 7245. Outside theEC the price was £ 5995. Orders were being taken for Sept 1999. No further production of the Britannias was planned until 2002 at the earliest. Geoff Carlisle.
