Hi All I have a mistery for you to solve. Let me tell you what I know about this engine. she is a 4 cylinder atlantic to a freelance design. she was built (we think in the 50s). her boiler is of rivited copper construction and all the fitting just screwed into the plates. The cylinders are gunmetal with slide valves above. the inside valves are operated via a link to the adjcent outside ones. All I know about the builder is that he lived in the southend area and his wife's maden name was Dolly Stephens. She came into your posession about 25+ years ago, but she has been under my work benck for the past 3 years due to a stuck regulator and until reciently no where to run her. The current colour scheme is a red herring as the number is that of Flying Scotsman ;D FS was order by the GN as 1472 which she never had as the GN became the LNER before she was completed and the number was changed during construction. Ok that upset all the purests out there. I have always felt that there is a GN influence to the front end and a GE one to the cab. And so to my question. Whos design? Andrew Attachments:

I did have a look at the Greenly archive Andrew as I thought that as well but didn't find anything that matched. Is it 5" gauge by the way?
There were some full size 4 cylinder Atlantics but again, nothing like the model.

Yes sorry it is a 5 ins loco. I can't find any full size loco that look like it. There are some that the cab looks like and a few that are similar to the front, but none the whole Andrew

Hi Andrew, i agree with John as in the Greenly designs, all i would suggest it's a fine freelance engine to someones own design pretty much like this one img.photobucket.com/albums/v196/fodder/bluey3.jpgThis started life as a 5" gauge version of LBSC's Helen long and my friend bought it as an air running chassis and is 3 cylinder, being a freelance engineer he could see exactly what he was going to do with it and as can been seen was turned into a 3 cylinder Pacific to his own design, probably not the answer you was looking for but a possibility !
