Gents,
I am no non ferous matallurgist but my understanding was that silver soldering copper boilers that had undergone lead /soft solder repairs was a huge no,no.
My understanding was that a lead copper alloy had a melting point much lower than the melting point of silver solder, I realise a good deal depends on the grade of silver solder.
Looking on the net it seems that a lead copper alloy has a menlting point of around 1000 deg Centigrade which is higher than the melting point of most silver solders.
Personally I have managed to burn copper contaminated with lead while trying to anneal it so subscribe to the no silver soldering after lead repairs brigade......your comments please gents as I have bet on with a mate of mine who is adamant that a copper lead alloy with lead repair can be brazed with silver solder.
Regards, IP
