Hi All Can anyone advise a suitable kit for a novice. I've made many enquiries about starting in the Model Engineering hobby but it would appear that without a lathe and milling machine...... which I would'nt know how to use anyway there is limited access to building a steam loco. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Many Thanks, R.O'Connor

Hi Roconnor If you are lookign for a 3.5" gauge kit then I think you will be out of luck! However kits for 5" gauge are available form either Poly model Engineering or Modelworks both of whom will be at the Midlands Models Engineering show show in Leamington this weekend. I would suggest you pop along and have a chat with them both.

Hi Greasemonkey, Thanks for your reply.I have a disability and I think 5" gauge will be a bit heavy for me to manage.

A large 3.5" will be bigger and heavier than a small 5". If you want to pull a load heavy is good.
OS make a range of 3.5" gauge kits. They are sold in the UK by RipMax. They are expensive.
