Hello Everybody. i have purchased a part made 3 1/2 inch gauge black five built to the lbsc doris design which has a really nicely made silver soldered boiler , but the fittings on the backhead are screwed straight into the backhead without using bushes. Is this still allowed under current boiler regulations? sorry for such an amateur question , i have yet to join a club at which i can ask silly questions.

Hi There are many factors in this issue , these depend on 1) Where you are and what regulation you will be under . 2)How thick the plate is. 3) When this boiler was built, and how was inspected and by whom , as in the past this practice was acceptable . 4) What are these fittings. Fire door , what else ? However attaching fittings to blind bushes is the best practice . Modifying your boiler is not very hard . Have a talk to a boiler inspector in a club near you .
