Can any one tell me the correct method of setting the chuck up using the side adjusters?
Any help would be appreciated

Wayne,
At a guess it'll be something like clamp a bit of round rod in the chuck and then use a Dial Test Indicator (DTI) to monitor for any eccentricity and adjust it out as necessary, a bit like you'd do truing up in a four chuck.
I've heard that it's best to use a bit of rod close to the size of the target work piece. This gets around any non-linearity in the clamp action.
You can use the chuck to produce the reference rod. This has to be long enough such that once clamped on the trued surface there's enough protruding to monitor with the DTI.

Hi Wayne,
I don't have one of these chucks but I believe a word of warning from what I have read in the past in ME.
I think you must slacken the screws which clamp it slightly before using the adjusters as these are not designed to move it when fully clamped and can be damaged.
Chris.

Thanks for the advice, i striped the chuck to clean it and relised the cams work on the chuck body and not the individual jaws, it is extreamy acurate when set, however i canot see where the extra mony gose in to the chuck. The hemming way kit appears to do the same thing, i will purchase one and compair the two methods.

from what I remeber the grip tru is only accurate for the diameter of material is was set up for. This is fine if you always use the same bar stock size, other wise I'd use collets.

The art, apart from loosening the bolts clamping it to the back-plate before adjustment is:- 1. Put a bit of accurate rod of near the diameter you want to turn in it to clock off 2. Loosen the two adjusting screws opposite the one you are tightening (and vica versa) before you tighten t'other one (two). ie treat it rather like a 4 jaw
PS. Don't forget to tighten the clamping bolts after adjustment.
